Project description
The aim of the project is to improve the reading skills of children in rural schools in Albania (Krahës village). This is to be achieved by providing pupils with additional books and sources of information that promote their academic development and critical thinking. To this end, a small room in the school will be converted into a library. This library will provide books that can be used in class or borrowed.
As there are no libraries in the villages where the children can borrow or buy books – and many families also live in poor conditions – they lack access to additional learning materials. The library will therefore offer both school-supporting and artistic books that the children can read in their free time at school or at home. It will also provide a quiet place to study at school.
In addition, many pupils do not have internet access – and therefore no opportunity to research information for homework or projects. However, the current curriculum provides for exactly this type of task format.
The project therefore includes setting up a school library with at least three internet-enabled computers or laptops, a selection of reading books and a small heating system so that the room can be used all year round. Pupils are also to be trained in their digital skills at school.
