Project description:

In North Macedonia, there is a great need for kindergarten teachers, teachers at all levels and special education teachers. The Faculty of Education at the University of Tetova has recognised this need and, through the ‘Learning through Play’ project, is trying to draw the attention of young high school graduates to the choice of a career in teaching, particularly as a kindergarten teacher.

The aim of the project is to learn new creative techniques that utilise play in education. The high school graduates are motivated by workshops on the importance of the profession of teacher in kindergarten and for all levels, as well as remedial teachers.

The project includes the following activities:

  • 25 April 2024 Workshop with high school graduates “We learn how to play – learning through play”
  • 14-18 October 2024 Workshop with students and practising teachers in kindergarten

The main topic of the workshops is “Learning through play”. The following questions will be explored:

– How important is play for a child’s development, especially in the first seven years of life?
– What role do pre-school centres play as places for sensory, language and motor development, where children learn to write, read, count, socialise and communicate their feelings?

In the workshops, high school graduates, students and educators learn how important play is for a child’s development, how play is encouraged in early childhood education, why reusable materials are important in preschool education and what children learn from them, why art and theatre are considered an important part of early childhood education and much more.

The workshops will be organised by Mahir Mustafa, who lives and works in Switzerland as a lecturer in social pedagogy and educational science, and Erika Masina Beuggert from Switzerland, who is known in Kosovo and North Macedonia as an ambassador for the profession of kindergarten teacher.
